Bobcats fall to host Danville in opening round

DANVILLE - Betsy Layne journey in the postseason ended on Friday night as the Bobcats fell to host Danville in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs. Danville moved out in front early and pulled away to beat visiting Betsy Layne 67-12.
With the win, Danville moved to 8-3, advancing to the second round of the Class 2A State Playoffs. Betsy Layne concluded its latest season 7-4.
Danville set the tone early Friday night, outscoring the Bobcats 39-6 in the opening quarter. The Admirals added to their lead in the second period, blanking Betsy Layne 28-0 to lead 67-6 at halftime.
Betsy Layne scored its second and final touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Jawan Grey and Devonta Alcorn led Danville with three touchdowns apiece.
The runner-up out of Class 2A, District 7, productive Danville needed only 374 yards to score 67 points. The Admirals, under the guidance of legendary head coach Sam Harp, also scored on a kickoff return and an interception return.
The Bobcats exited the season 7-4. With the season-ending loss, Betsy Layne had three-game winning streak snapped.
Betsy Layne picked up the majority of its yardage against Danville through the air. Junior quarterback Dylan Hamilton led the Bobcats. Hamilton completed 11-of-25 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown.
Blake Spencer hauled in a scoring catch for the Bobcats.
Dustin Rogers led Betsy Layne receivers with three catches for 52 yards.
Danville held the Bobcats to 25 rushing yards. Houston Hall led Betsy Layne on the ground, rushing five times for 20 yards and one touchdown. Hall also has three receptions for 33 yards.
Danville will visit Class 2A, District 8 Champion Prestonsburg this week. The Blackcats defeated Middlesboro 36-33 Friday night.
