First returns come in, as absentee totals released

The first results of the 2012 election in Floyd County are in, as County Clerk Chris Waugh’s office has released the results of absentee voting.

In the presidential race, Mitt Romney sprung to an early lead in the absentee votes over President Barack Obama by a 394-243 margin. Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 1, independent Randall Terry received 3 and Libertarian Gary Johnson received 4.

U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers was cruising to a lead over Kenneth Stepp, 423-207.

In the race for 97th District state representative, incumbent Rep. Hubert Collins had 34 votes, over challenger Bobby McCool’s 14.

Former Supreme Court Justice Janet Stumbo took an lead in Floyd County in her bid to return to the state’s highest court with 317 votes, compared to 258 for incumbent Justice Will T. Scott.

In the Martin mayor race, incumbent Mayor Thomasine Robinson held an early lead with 24 votes, compared to 15 for challenger Sam Howell.
