MARTIN - The Piarist School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams swept opposing squads from visiting Red Bird on Thursday (Nov. 29).

Girls - Piarist 56, Red Bird 31: Kelli Akers and Cathryn Calhoun scored 17 points apiece and Shelby Lemaster added 16 as the Piarist School girls’ basketball team defeated visiting Red Bird 56-31 Thursday (Nov. 29).
Kevin Tackett-coached Piarist converted on 23-of-51 shots from the field, shooting 41.2 percent.
The Lady Knights dominated on the glass, grabbing 42 total rebounds.
Jessi Hale and Taylor Eckle aided the Piarist offensive effort with four and two points, respectively.
Akers, Calhoun and Hale led Piarist in rebounding, capturing eight caroms apiece.
Boys - Piarist 72, Red Bird 64: Host Piarist School hung on to defeat Red Bird 72-64 in a season-opener Thursday (Nov. 29).
Tyler Stumbo led Piarist with a game-high 26 points. Stumbo was one of three Piarist scorers to reach double figures. Michael Williams netted 19 points and John Gullet chipped in 17 for the Knights.
Ben Dennison scored seven points and Galvin Greene added three for Piarist in the win.
Piarist was 27-of-69 from the field, shooting 39.1 percent. The Knights finished seven-of-27 from 3-point range.
Piarist was 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from the free throw line and grabbed 37 total rebounds.
Greene grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Knights. Gullett ranked as Piarist’s second-leading rebounder, claiming eight rebounds.
