PIKEVILLE – Junior Brogan Conley had 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the University of Pikeville to a 84-48 win over Morris (S.C.) College Friday night at the UPIKE Gym.
Conley, who pulled down eight rebounds off the offensive glass, also had four assists, one steal and no turnovers in 21 minutes of action.
She had plenty of help, with freshman Peyton Wright joining in with 15 points and five rebounds for the Bears, who won the battle on the glass 52-38.
The Bears needed only seven seconds to take a lead they would never lose, as junior Jayme Jackson found Conley for a three to open play. The Bears scored the first six points of the game and never looked back.
Pikeville (4-5) enjoyed its biggest lead of the first half at its end when it was on top 41-20.
The Bears used a 23-5 run over a nine-minute stretch to push the lead to 82-42. It was 40 one more time late before settling at 36.
Pikeville shot 47.1 percent for the game and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the arc in the win.
Morris (1-11) shot only 31 percent from the floor and was 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from the arc. Neither team shot well from the line; Pikeville was 12-of-25 while Morris was 10-of-18.
The Hornets had only one player in double figures. Freshman Bridgett Green had 14 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Conley and Wright were the only players in double figures for the Bears, who played all 15 in uniform and got points from 12 of them.
Pikeville had 12 steals off 26 Morris turnovers and was credited with 26 assists on 33 baskets.
