PIKEVILLE - Betsy Layne outlasted preseason 14th Region favorite Breathitt County in the semifinals of the 60th Annual Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Friday, winning 50-46 in overtime.
Betsy Layne moved to 9-2 after posting the win.
Following the loss, Breathitt County fell to 7-3.
Junior guard Dylan Meade led Betsy Layne with a game-high 18 points.
Sophomore guard/forward Peyton Case was close behind Meade, pushing in 16 points of his own.
The Bobcats outscored Breathitt County 10-6 in overtime.
Betsy Layne was only 19-of-59 from the field. The Bobcats were four-of-17 from 3-point range and shot 66.7 percent (eight-of-12) at the foul line.
The two teams swapped leads on several occasions, both before and after intermission. After the first quarter ended tied 11-11, Betsy Layne led 18-17 at halftime and took a 29-28 lead out of the third quarter.
Breathitt County edged Betsy Layne 12-11 in the fourth quarter to force an extra period.
Other scorers for Betsy Layne were Dylan Hamilton (five points), Garran Newsome (four points), Lako Daniels (four points) and Dustin Rogers (three points).
Hamilton grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Betsy Layne boys’ basketball team.
Alex Hamilton, a senior guard, led Breathitt County with 14 points. Two Breathitt County scorers reached double figures and a pair of others narrowly missed netting 10 or more points.
Joining Hamilton in double figures, sophomore center Luke Chaney chipped in 10 points for Breathitt County in the loss.
Wes Noble and Ryan Cox contribuited nine points apiece for the Breathitt County Bobcats.
Betsy Layne fared well on the boards, capturing 36 rebounds, 19 of which came on the defensive end.
The 15th Region championship contender had nine assists compared to only six turnovers.
