BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne is set to make its fifth appearance in the 26th Annual WYMT Whayne Supply Mountain Basketball Classic next week. The Bobcats will face 14th Region frontrunner Knott County Central in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Perry County Central’s John C. Combs Arena. Betsy Layne is 0-7 all-time in the highly-competitive Mountain basketball tournament.


Knott County Central is the reigning WYMT Whayne Supply Mountain Basketball Classic champion and favored to win this year’s title.


North Laurel, Breathitt County, Harlan County, Hazard, Clay County and Perry County Central are also poised to compete in the 26th Annual WYMT Whayne Supply Mountain Basketball Classic.


The Bobcats have already played in one tournament this season. Betsy Layne finished runner-up to Louisville Collegiate in the 60th Annual Pikeville Invitational Tournament. The Junior Newsome-coached Bobcats will face 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival South Floyd at 8 p.m. Friday night in the opening round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic.


The Mountain Classic is scheduled for Jan. 8-12. The championship game is slated for Jan. 12 at 8:15 p.m.
