PIKEVILLE – The second-ranked University of Pikeville Bears extended their win streak to 11 with a 79-64 win over St. Catharine College Thursday night at the East Kentucky Expo Center.

Pikeville (18-1, 8-1 in the Mid-South Conference) blistered the nets all night, hitting 52.5 percent from the field to end what had been a stretch of seven straight losses to the Patriots dating back to Jan. 23, 2010.

The Bears shot well from everywhere, hitting 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from the arc and a white-hot 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) from the line.

Baskets by senior Jamar “Deuce” Briscoe and junior Josh Whitaker put the Bears on top 4-0 early. After falling behind for the only time at 9-7, the Bears went on an 11-2 run. Five players scored in the run, with senior Trevor Setty tossing in five. His basket with 11:03 to play in the half put the Bears in front 20-11.

The lead reached 15 twice in the first half, including 42-27 at the break.

After recess, the Bears led comfortably. St. Catharine got no closer than 11, with the Bears leading by as many as 21 before settling for the 18-point margin.
