PIKEVILLE – A four-time first-team all-conference player will be the head coach of the University of Pikeville lacrosse team when it begins play in March.
Alyson Jost, a native of Abingdon, Md., has been hired as the new coach and was introduced at a Monday morning press conference.
Jost played at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., where she was named First-Team All-Northeast Conference all four years. In addition, she was the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in both 2009 and 2011. During those same seasons, she was named to the conference all-tournament team.
In addition, she served as a team captain for the last two seasons of her Mount St. Mary’s career and was her team’s 2011 most valuable player.
“Aly has been a decorated player and brings a wealth of knowledge to our program,” said Dr. Reginald F. Overton, director of athletics at UPIKE. “We’re very excited to bring her to our family at the university and believe she will be a valued member of our athletics department.”
She was also a four-year member of the Northeast Conference Distinguished Honor Roll. In 2011, she was a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic At-Large All-District II First Team as well as a winner of the Monsignor John L. Sheridan Award for Athletics and Academic Excellence.
Since graduating Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts in criminal justice and sociology, she has worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in Fort Meade, Md., and in 2012, served as coach of the North East Maryland Select Lacrosse Club (NEMS) in Hickory, Md.
