One killed in Pike accident

MOUTHCARD — An open security gate was struck in single-vehicle accident, claiming the life of a Pike County resident earlier this week.

According to Kentucky State Police, Post 9 in Pikeville received a call of a single-vehicle accident on Warrior Path, Tuesday. Based on the preliminary investigation and information obtained at the scene, police are saying that Charles Freeman, of Feds Creek, was traveling north on Warrior Path, exiting the East Ridge High School parking lot, when his vehicle struck an open security gate.

A passenger in the vehicle, Mona Gail Freeman, 76, of Feds Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey. As of press time, police have not released any information on the condition of Charles Freeman.

The accident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jamie Rose.
