Windell Elliott Stratton

Windell Elliott Stratton, age 85 of Ivel, husband of Lora Jean Clark Stratton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 22, 1927, at Ivel, a son of the late J. K. and Bertha Elliott Stratton. He was a retired postmaster from Ivel Post Office, a former coal miner, and owner/operator of Stratton Coal Sales, Stratton Grocery, and Stratton Potato Chip Factory. He also attended Pikeville College, served in the U.S. Navy where he attended the San Diego Naval Academy and received an Orthopedic Technician degree. He worked as an orthopedic technician at the Bremerton Naval Hospital in Bremerton, WA. He also attended the Tom’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Windell is survived by his wife, Lora Jean Clark Stratton; two daughters, Annice Lee (Bob) Welch and Loretta Gay (Doug) Hicks, both of Ivel; a sister, Peggy Stratton Blevins, of Alabama; and four grandchildren, Jessica Stumbo, Lindsey Cross, Bradley Elliott Hicks and Windell David Stratton.
In addition to his parents, Windell was preceded in death by five brothers, Marvin Stratton, J. K. “Doc” Stratton Jr., Hershell Stratton, Arby Lloyd Stratton and Haskel “Hack” Stratton, and six sisters, Opal Todd, Ruby Martin, Reba Brewer, Billia Marie Wilson, Vivian Mullins and Sybil Keeton.
Funeral services for Windell Elliott Stratton will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Tim McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Tom’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church, 35 Chapel Drive, Ivel, KY 41642.
