A regional science competition was held last weekend at the University of Pikeville, and one Floyd County High School placed first.

Betsy Layne High School’s (BLHS) White Team won the Regional Science Olympiad Competition this past Saturday on the campus of the University of Pikeville. Members of the White team include: Megan Akers, Cora Boyd, Latracia Burchett, Kirklin Collins, LaKeisha Crum, Austin Gillespie, Brooke Hall, Dakota Hamilton, Kelli Joseph, Christi Lykens, Andrew Noble, Austin Rowe and Josh Williams.

Alson, four members of the BLHS Blue team: Blake Spencer, Jordan Stewart, Paula Tackett and Blake Williams; received gold medals and will move on to the state competition. Betsy Layne High school won 29 medals out of 23 events, 5 of which were gold.

The winning students will now move on to the state competition which will be held at Western Kentucky University in late April. The Blue and White science teams at BLHS are coached by Cortney Flannery and Cristina Crase.
