Marlene D. Bartuka, 81, of Ogunquit, Maine, formerly of Hardy, Va., and Wheelwright, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in the York Hospital, with her son and close friends by her side.
She was born July 19, 1931, at Allock, a daughter of the Late Kenneth and Launa (Luttrell) Deal.
She worked as a registered nurse for many years in McDowell and Pikeville, and Grundy and Salem, Va. She really enjoyed her time as a labor and delivery nurse. She loved bingo, fishing, crafts, cooking and Kentucky. She was a loving, caring person and a devoted mother. Her husband, Harry E. Bartuka, predeceased her.
She leaves a son, Kenneth E. Bartuka, of Ogunquit, Maine; four sisters, Mary Lee Shockley and her husband, Richard, of Marion, Ill., Patty Collins and her husband, Paul, of Florence, Nancy Hunter, of LaGrange, Ind., and Gwynne Katzenbach and her husband, George, of Lafayette Hill, Penn.; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Smith, of Hardy, Va., and Freda Bartuka, of Whitesburg; special friends, Deb Dimmick, of York, Maine, Mary Cusick, of Gardiner, Maine, Marion Anderson, of Union Hall, Va., Maggie DeCaro, of Ogunquit, Maine, Josephine Dickerson, of Vinton, Va., and Foster Corbin, of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services will be at noon, Saturday, March 23, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, with Foster Corbin and Richard Shockley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, in Vinton, Va.
