PIKEVILLE – The Delta Alpha Lambda fraternity at the University of Pikeville recently hosted a food drive to benefit the WestCare homeless shelter in Pikeville.
With the generosity of the Pikeville community, students collected nine shopping carts of items including food, paper products, diapers, cleaning supplies and blankets. The donations totaled more than $2,000 in value and filled a truck.
“Our goal as a fraternity is to get involved with the community by engaging in volunteer service,” said Gabriel Carrillo, Delta Alpha Lambda president. “Everyone in our fraternity supported the idea of a food drive and was extremely excited about doing something outside the walls of the university.”
Delta Alpha Lambda members include Gabriel Carrillo, Nicholas Carrillo, Dustin Fitch, Keith Slate, Demitri Curry, Austin Saddler, David Wolford, Logan Lester, Jeff Blind, Rick Lane, Chris Moberly, Seth Bowling, John Bartosiewicz, Wesley Ray, P.D. Stevens, C.J. Dotson, Lance Johnson, Jacob Rhine and Josh Sammons.
“After seeing the look on the staff and residents’ faces as we pulled into the parking lot with our truck filled, we cannot wait to do it again,” said Carrillo.
