Donald Atwood Willis, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Born April 14, 1931, in Petersburg, Ind., he was the son of the late Cecil Eldon Willis and Ruth E. Lindy Willis.
Don was formerly a supervisor at Kentucky Hydrocarbon and also worked with the Floyd County 911 program. He was very active as he served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was Master of the Masonic Zebulon Lodge #273, in Prestonsburg in 1996, and Past Potentate of the Olieka Shrine Temple in Lexington, and a charter member of the Floyd County Emergency and Rescue Squad.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by two sons, Nathan Ray Willis and Kenneth Allen Willis.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby White Willis; two sons, Donald Lee Willis and his wife, Kaye, of Prestonsburg, and Ronald A. Willis and his wife, Lisa, of Owingsville; three grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Joey Willis and Ashleigh Willis; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Smith and Delainey Grace Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 5, at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Doug Lewis officiating. Burial will follow the service in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Masonic Services were conducted Thursday evening. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Big Sandy Chapter No. 18 D.A.V., Auxier.
Serving the family as active pallbearers are: Joey Willis, Mark White, David White, Len Noble, John Chaney, Bill Dotson, Tim Cooley, Rusty Howard, Jerry Fannin, Don Hughes. Honorary Pallbearer: Kelly Moore, Robert Moore, Gene Weathers, Scott Hamilton, Willis Haws, Bob Caswell, W.O. Bradley, Jimmy Goble, Jeff Ryan, and Bud Alexander.
The family has requested that Memorial Contributions be made to the Floyd County Emergency and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 681, Prestonsburg KY, 41653.
The family has entrusted arrangements to the Carter Funeral Home.
