MINNIE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats claimed their second straight win on Friday, defeating host South Floyd 15-4 in five innings via the Kentucky High School Athletic Association 10-Run Mercy Rule.
With the win, Betsy Layne evened its record to 4-4.
South Floyd was saddled with its fourth straight loss, falling to 1-6.
Betsy Layne sophomore pitcher Brandy Morrow earned the win.
South Floyd pitcher Keeley Dye suffered the loss.
Betsy Layne scored first and only trailed briefly.
Offensively, Summer Johnson connected on a triple and Eddie Akers and Emily Kidd added a double each for the Ladycats.
Akers, Mercedes Martin and Summer Johnson each had three RBIs for Betsy Layne in the convincing win.
Kennedy Bias added the Betsy Layne offensive attack with two RBIs. Kidd, Antonia Vance and Jordan Adkins drove in one run each for the Ladycats
Betsy Layne pushed across three runs in the top half of the first inning. After only allowing South Floyd to score once in the bottom of the initial inning, Betsy Layne carried a 3-1 advantage into the second.
The Ladycats remained out in front 3-1 in the third inning when South Floyd plated three runs to move out ahead 4-3.
Betsy Layne, thriving at the plate late in the district/conference matchup, scored five runs in the fourth inning to move ahead for good.
The Ladycats added seven runs in the fifth inning to secure an 11-run lead and eventually force the game to end via the KHSAA 10-Run Mercy Rule.
Brandi Stumbo helped to lead the South Floyd offense with two doubles. Brittany Dawson delivered four RBIs for the Lady Raiders.
