Blackcats blank South Floyd
PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg baseball team notched its 10th straight win on Monday, defeating visiting 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe South Floyd 14-0 in five innings.
The Blackcats established an early lead and never faltered in the district/conference contest.
Prestonsburg senior pitcher Tate Goble earned the win. Goble pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing one hit. The Prestonsburg starting pitcher registered six strikeouts.
Grant Anderson, the leadoff hitter in the Prestonsburg batting order, paced the Blackcats by going 3-for-3 with three singles and three runs.
Bryson Williams (triple) and Trey Stapleton (double) both delivered an extra-base hit for the Blackcats.
Williams also scored three runs for the Prestonsburg baseball team.
Prestonsburg set the tone early,scoring four runs in the first inning.
The Blackcats remained in control throughout the game. Prestonsburg packed a commanding 8-0 lead out of the third inning.
The Blackcats put the game away in the fourth inning, scoring six runs to move ahead 14-0.
South Floyd pitcher Dakota Justice started on the mound and suffered the loss.
Offensively, Hunter Johnson had a double for the Raiders in the fourth inning.
Prestonsburg defeated South Floyd for the third time this season. Earlier in the season, Prestonsburg won via shutout over South Floyd in a regular-season game and then prevailed without allowing a run in a matchup played as part of the 15th Region All “A” Classic.
