BRISTOL, Tenn. – Bristol Dragway, one of the country’s most popular and unique facilities, is known for hosting a wide-range of distinctive events that are enormously appealing to spectators.
That is particularly true with the upcoming April 26-27 Thunder Valley Madness, which is the X-Treme Drag Racing League’s debut event at Bristol Dragway.
This also is the initial year for the X-DRL, largely considered the country’s premier organization for eighth-mile drag racing, which features nine classes of unmatched doorslammer action.
“The main idea behind the X-DRL was to create a high-quality association that will bring plenty of excitement and we’re thrilled with what we’ve been able to accomplish in a short time,” said X-DRL co-owner Jeff Mitchell.
“It’s only the first year for the X-DRL but we’ve already been able to establish ourselves in the industry. We’ve done business the right way and the support we’ve received from sponsors has been proof of that. We believe the racing community is hungry for a product like what the X-DRL will present in 2013.”
X-DRL kicked off its season April 6-7 at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma and promptly raised eyebrows with an historic run. Eric Dillard became the first turbo driver in drag racing history to reach the 3.70s, eventually bettering his initial run with a 3.786 at 210.64 mph in the semifinals on the way to winning the Precision Turbo and Engine Pro Turbo class.
Along with the Pro Turbo class at Thunder Valley Madness, racing also takes place in Supercar Showdown, Pro Junior Dragster, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, X-Treme Pro Mod, X-Treme Pro Stock, Pro Nitrous, and Pro Extreme, the quickest and fastest full-bodied doorslammer class in the world.
Tickets, on sale now, are available for $25 each day for adults with children 12 and under getting in free. A weekend pass is available for $45. Anyone who purchases tickets prior to April 25 at 5 p.m. can save $5 on each ticket purchase.
Gates will open Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m. with qualifying slated for 10 a.m. both days. Eliminations begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.
