LOUISVILLE - UVa.-Wise’s Allyssa Zebrowski is the Mid-South Conference Softball Player of the Week and teammate Rachel Hawks is the MSC Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly conference awards are Zebrowski and Hawks first weekly honors of their careers.
Zebrowski hit safely in all six Cavalier games last week to run her hitting streak to 14 straight games. During the week, the Petersburg, Va., junior shortstop hit .556 (10-for-18) with six runs and four RBIs while helping the Cavaliers to a 5-1 record.
Zebrowski posted multiple hits in four of her six games last week, including a 2-for-2 performance in a 12-2 win over Cumberlands. She also scored twice and drove in two in the win.
In addition to her work at the plate, Zebrowski completed the week a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases.
Hawks won four times last week while posting a 0.58 ERA for the Cavaliers.
The Suffolk, Va., junior allowed just two runs and eight hits in 24 innings inside the circle. She compiled 19 strikeouts while surrendering just four walks during the week.
Hawks began the week with a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over Shawnee State. She added two wins over Cumberlands in a doubleheader sweep and a three-hit shutout against Southern Virginia.
Zebrowski and Hawks helped the Cavaliers improve to 22-19 overall and 10-10 in the Mid-South with last week’s 5-1 record.
The next softball player and pitcher of the week awards will be announced on Monday, April 22.
ALC senior Brandon Arnold named KIAC Baseball Player of the Week: Alice Lloyd College senior Brandon Arnold was named the KIAC baseball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday.
Arnold had a career week hitting .706 (12-for-17) with a .941 slugging percentage. The senior center fielder finished the week with two doubles, one triple, four runs batted in and 8 runs scored. He also was successful on all four stolen base attempts and played excellent defense for the Eagles. Arnold is hitting .377 on the season (49-for-130).
Alice Lloyd College is 6-14 overall and 11-24 in conference play. The Eagles were playing on the road at University of Cincinnati Clermont in a doubleheader Tuesday evening.
