ACMS wins Volleyfest title
EASTERN - Allen Central captured the 2013 Volleyfest title on Saturday, prevailing in the double-elimination tournament held at J.E. Campbell Arena.
The Rebels entered the final week of the regular-season 21-2 overall and 11-1 in the Floyd County Conference.
Allen Central defeated South Floyd 2-0 (21-11, 21-11) in the championship match.
The Rebels exited the tournament with 61 aces on 91 percent serving. Kelsie Jackson paced the Rebels by knocking in 27 aces. Amber Stumbo registered 10 aces for the Rebels.
Lakyn Wallace set up 30 kills for the tournament. Jackson pounded in 21 kills to lead Allen Central’s attack. Lauryn Stumbo pounded in 16 kills. Amber Stumbo smacked in nine kills, Julia Flanery delivered four putdowns and Wallace and Kaley Bates contributed two knocks each.
Defensively, Allen Central returned 207 opposing team point attempts for 87 percent and earned 43 digs.
Jackson and Lauryn Stumbo led the Allen Central backrow with 10 digs each. Amber Stumbo and Kaley Bates added eight digs apiece and Flanery chipped in five. Wallace earned two digs for the Rebels. Lauryn Stumbo also registered four blocks for the Allen Central volleyball unit.
ACMS winding down regular-season: Allen Central Middle School was hosting Floyd County counterpart Wesley Christian Thursday evening, with eighth-graders Lauryn Stumbo, Amber Stumbo, Julia Flanery, Kelsie Jackson, Kaley Bates, Lakyn Wallace and Amanda Tackett (Stats) being honored as part of Eighth Grade Night festivities.
