ALLEN - Visiting Painstville limited Betsy Layne to a pair of hits and held the Bobcats scoreless on Tuesday, winning 7-0 at Stumbo Park.
The hottest team in the 15th Region, Paintsville claimed its 10th straight win to improve to 15-4. The Tigers, under the tutelage of head coach John Miller posted their 11th win in a dozen games.
After slipping back into the loss column following a 12-0 victory over Buckhorn five days earlier, Betsy Layne fell to 5-6.
Paintsville pitcher Lane Daniels pitched a complete game, registering nine strikeouts. Daniels threw 18 first pitch strikes.
Betsy Layne pitcher Kannon Newsome worked 4.1 innings. Newsome recorded three strikeouts in the loss.
Paintsville moved ahead early, scoring three runs in the top half of the first inning.
The Tigers eventually scored seven runs via seven hits.
Paintsville fared very well in the field, exiting the contest without an error.
Colby Burchett led the Paintsville offensive effort with three hits and an RBI.
Brandon Haight added two hits while Daniels and Burchett drove in one run each.
Michael Henson worked 2.2 innings as part of a relief appearance for the Bobcats.
Paintsville and Betsy Layne, longtime 15th Region rivals, aren’t done with each other this season. Betsy Layne will visit Charlie Adkins Field on May 14 for a late-regular-season game versus the Tigers.
