ALLEN - South Floyd completed its quest for a district title on Wednesday, edging Betsy Layne 7-6 in the 58th District Softball Tournament championship game.


South Floyd pitcher Brittany Dawson notched the win.


Betsy Layne pitcher Brandy Morrow took the loss.


South Floyd struck first, scoring two runs in the second inning.


Betsy Layne, answering in a big way, produced four runs in the third inning to move out in front 4-2.


The Ladycats kept the 4-2 lead until the fifth inning when South Floyd moved ahead for good. Taking advantage of its offensive opportunities, South Floyd plated five runs in the fifth inning.


The Ladycats fell short after plating two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.


Leighann Hall led South Floyd with a triple, double and two runs.


Dawson, Brooke Potter, Brandi Stumbo, Miranda Johnson and Brandy Osborne each scored one run for the Lady Raiders.


Both South Floyd and Betsy Layne advanced to the 15th Region Softball Tournament at Belfry. The remainder of the 15th Region Softball Tournament field includes Pike County Central, Johnson Central, East Ridge, Pikeville, Belfry and Magoffin County.
