The Fourth of July brings plenty of activities for Floyd County residents, no matter what end of the county they’re in.

In Prestonsburg, the carnival is in town, open through the Fourth of July holiday in Archer Park. In addition, the county’s largest fireworks display will kick off after dark, which city officials said should be between 9:30 and 10 p.m.

In Wayland, there is a Fourth of July celebration planned, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Wayland Community Center. Plans call for free food, live music and inflatables for the kids, followed by fireworks at dusk.

Wheelwright plans to celebrate the nation’s birthday all day long, with free inflatables and free hot dogs in the park, as well as free admission to the city pool, said city councilman Don Hall. About an hour before dark, those activities will wind down, in preparation for the city’s fireworks display.
